Homemade 0sp Berry Compote
One of my favourite, go to, quick and easy breakfasts is this delicious berry compote served with fat free Greek yoghurt (my favourite is Total 0% Fat Greek Yogurt as it’s lovely and thick) and a sprinkling of either Weight Watchers Strawberry granola (available in classes or in the online shop) or my current favourite, Grape nut (I get mine in Sainsbury’s) with a little honey. It is such a simple recipe and for the grand total of 0sp, really livens up breakfast time.
The best thing about this compote is you can make a big batch and store it in the fridge for up to 5 days. You’ve then got it ready to use with yogurt, porridge, pancakes, waffles…whatever you fancy! You can even freeze in portions in an ice cube tray and defrost in the microwave as and when you need.
Give it a try – it’s such a lovely addition to breakfast time and the whole family will love it!
0sp Berry Compote
Serve 4 = 0sp per serving
Ingredients
2 large handfuls of mixed frozen berries (or any combo you fancy – sometimes I just use raspberries depending on what I have in)
½ tsp each mixed spice and ground cinnamon
1 tbsp powdered sweetener
Method
Add all of the ingredients to a small saucepan with a small splash of cold water. Bring the pan to a medium heat and, once the mix is bubbling, reduce to a simmer. Continue to simmer for 5-6 minutes, using a wooden spoon to mix and mash the fruit a little.
Remove the compote from the heat and pop into a jar. Serve hot or, once cool, store in the fridge for up to 5 days. I often stir this cold through my porridge or yoghurt or have it hot as a topping for over banana pancakes or waffles.
Enjoy!
I have this with banana pancakes! Really lovely. xx
Made the compote yesterday it’s delicious thank you x
Sounds lovely, I just bought some raspberries, so will try this.
I thought if you changed fruit from itsrawest state it had to be pointed e.g berry smoothie?
Hi Amy, if you use fruit in a smoothie (or any drink form) you need to point it but you don’t in sauces, salsas etc. Weight Watchers have written an article about it here which explains why in a bit more detail https://www.weightwatchers.com/uk/article/why-does-fruit-count-smoothies-and-juices xx
Love the recipe OSP berry compote Thank you will be making this,
Have made this twice now it’s amazing and helps me as I use as a snack with natural yogurt in the evening. Thanks so much
What’s the difference between a compote and a jam? About 10 minutes!! Got side tracked looking through your amazing recipes and totally forgot about my compote. Still delicious but the only identifiable fruit left are the large strawberries everything else has disintigrated!
Hah this made me chuckle! I like it smushed up a bit too!
